Optimizing Underground Mining Operations

The Underground Backfill Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of underground mining operations by optimizing and managing paste backfill systems. This includes driving improvements in paste backfill performance through optimization of rheology, reticulation, QA/QC, and backfill strength design – while proactively identifying and mitigating associated risks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and contribute to projects focused on expanding and enhancing paste backfill infrastructure.
  • Maintain and execute quality assurance and control programs in alignment with the site's Backfill Management Plan.
  • Review and update paste backfill standards and procedures as needed to ensure consistency and best practice across operations.
  • Collaborate with mining and processing teams to troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges.
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in geotechnics, mining engineering, civil/mechanical engineering or equivalent is required.
  • At least five years' experience as a backfill engineer, including in operational roles, is essential.
  • Experience in project/cost/contractor management is also highly valued.
