Marsden State High School has been operating since 1987, providing excellent quality public education to over 3500 students. Despite being one of the largest schools in Queensland, it maintains a strong sense of community and offers individual attention and diverse opportunities for participation.
Key Responsibilities- Generate daily reports on absenteeism and advise parents/carers and teachers while documenting relevant information for input into the school engagement process.
- Create a 'Daily Attendance Report' every morning and provide it to all teaching staff and deputy principals, as well as advise teachers of amendments to attendance records due to late notification.
- Collect and coordinate data relating to student engagement, follow up students who are chronically absent, monitor student programs, and provide information to teachers and school leaders.
- Liaise with the Student Support Officer, Head of Special Education Program, and Guidance Officer to address issues relating to students experiencing problems that prevent their engagement at school.
- Maintain a database listing students who are independent, residing with carers, or have legal orders against their parents/guardians, which may impact on student attendance and engagement.
- Monitor attendance to increase awareness of students experiencing problems and allow for intervention before these problems escalate, while providing this information and advice to assist teachers managing students with non-attendance issues.
- Develop relationships between the school and families of students showing persistent absence from school to encourage continuous attendance, assist teachers addressing barriers to school attendance, and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies and procedures to counter causes of school non-attendance.
- Identify barriers to students attending school and achieving outcomes by referring them to appropriate support services, especially students at risk (at home or in the school environment).
