About the Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our Scientific Software Group within the ISIS Computing division. As a Scientific Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development of software solutions for use at ISIS, a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences.

Our team is responsible for developing robust and reliable data reduction and analysis software, which is a crucial part of the pipeline from experimental data acquisition through to publication. We work closely with ISIS scientists and users, as well as international partners, to develop software that meets their needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement software solutions for use at ISIS
  • Use continuous integration systems to develop software within our continuous delivery pipeline
  • Participate in Agile development processes
  • Undertake training in relevant tools and techniques
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025
  • Studying for a degree in a software engineering, computer science, natural science, or a strongly related subject
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills, both technical and non-technical
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to program in a modern language
  • An interest in computing and science
