Leadership Role: Shelter Operations

This role will see you take the lead in guiding daily operations at our animal shelter, ensuring animals and staff thrive in a safe environment.

You'll be driving continuous improvement while supporting staff development, planning, and community engagement. This frontline leadership position bridges strategic vision with day-to-day execution, making key decisions and reporting outcomes in line with set values, goals, and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Manage animal care, impounding, rehoming, and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Lead and guide a small team, including rostering, task allocation, and performance management.
  • Ensure a positive team culture by coaching staff, engaging with stakeholders, and fostering collaboration.
  • Deliver outcomes under pressure, prioritise tasks, and make key decisions aligned with organisational values.
  • Accurately record-keep and use digital animal management systems (e.g. Shelter Buddy and NSW Pet Registry).

What You Need To Succeed
  1. Certificate III in Companion Animal Services (or equivalent experience) and Cert IV in Leadership and Management, or 2 years of relevant experience.
  2. Strong leadership skills – proven experience supervising a team, including rostering, task allocation, and performance management.
  3. Excellent communication and customer service expertise – ability to handle challenging interactions in a public-facing environment.
  4. High-level organisational skills – ability to prioritise tasks, make decisions under pressure, and deliver outcomes.
  5. Sound knowledge of WHS responsibilities – commitment to safety, ethical conduct, and animal welfare.
  6. Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical prior to commencement.
  7. C Class Drivers Licence.
