Job Description

As a Senior Policy Lead, you will play a key role in driving transformational reforms to reduce Aboriginal over-representation in youth justice. This includes leading the development and implementation of Wirkara Kulpa—Victoria's first Aboriginal Youth Justice Strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving analysis and insights on Aboriginal youth in the justice system, collaborating with stakeholders including the Aboriginal Justice Forum.
  • Overseeing policy development, implementation, and evaluation for the Aboriginal Youth Justice unit at the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS).
  • Preparing high-level policy advice, reports, and presentations for departmental executives and ministers on sensitive and complex matters.

Additionally, you will lead the coordination and provision of timely and strategic advice on high-priority reforms designed to reduce Aboriginal over-representation in the youth justice system, including Our Youth Our Way and Closing the Gap.

For this role, you will need to have experience in data analysis, reporting, and evaluation, as well as significant experience in Victorian Government administrative processes and understanding of key Aboriginal governance mechanisms such as the Aboriginal Justice Forum.

Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society, including awareness of culturally sensitive engagement practices, is also essential.

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Experience in data analysis, reporting, and evaluation.
