Wagga Wagga, Australia beBeePhytophysiology Full time $60,000 - $90,000

We are seeking highly motivated PhD candidates to join our research project, focusing on the physiological response of almond varieties to orchard management practices. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to the identification of factors contributing to leafing failure and advise on approaches to mitigate this response for various almond varieties.

">

Our project aims to establish best management practices promoting sustainable farming systems and a healthy river system. This involves working closely with growers to determine varietal water and nutrient requirements in almond trees, optimising plant functioning and mitigating stress responses.

The ideal candidate will possess strong academic backgrounds in agricultural science, environmental science, plant physiology, or horticulture, or equivalent research or work experience. Our primary university supervisor is Dr Joanne Ashnest, with co-supervisors Dr Bruno Holzapfel and Dr Cassandra Collins.

Successful candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with industry partners, engage in cutting-edge research, and develop skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experiments to determine the physiological response of almond varieties to orchard management practices
  • Analyse data to identify contributing factors to leafing failure
  • Develop and implement best management practices for sustainable farming systems
  • Collaborate with industry partners and researchers to advance knowledge in the field
  • Present research findings through publications and conference presentations

Requirements:

  • Masters or honours degree in agricultural science, environmental science, plant physiology, or horticulture
  • Equivalent research or work experience
  • Strong academic background and research skills
