Training Captain Job Description

The role of Training Captain involves providing licensed captains with ASD experience or vessel familiarization to qualify them as operators.

This position requires planning efficient and safe vessel operations, implementing operating plans, and evaluating results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safeguarding the vessel at all times by adhering to navigation guidelines.
  • Conducting required drills, training sessions, safety meetings, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensuring compliance with vessel maintenance and inspection requirements.
  • Inspecting vessels for conformity with safety standards and maritime regulations.
  • Maintaining effective communication with customers, pilots, and government agencies.
  • Reporting equipment failures, illnesses, incidents, accidents, and damages promptly and accurately.
  • Staying up-to-date with current maritime laws and regulations.
  • Leading crew members in the safe operation of vessels, machinery, and equipment.
  • Holding crew accountable for adherence to maritime law, company policies, and individual performance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of vessel handling and navigational skills.
  • A working understanding of propulsion, auxiliary, and deck machinery.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Economic supervision of vessel, cargo, and crew operations.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to varying schedules and hours.
  • Capacity to withstand exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and at night, and take call-outs as needed.

Essential Requirements:

  • USCG Master 200/500/1600 Oceans or Near Coastal license.
  • At least 5 years' experience as a Master or Operating Mate on towing vessels.
  • Valid state driver's license.
