The OpportunityWe are seeking a Corporate Lawyer to join our premier Band 1 Capital Market Transactions team in Melbourne. The team undertakes both capital markets work and public and private Mergers and Acquisitions, and is currently advising Chemist Warehouse on its landmark merger with Sigma.
Working closely with our leading and highly awarded partners, Michael Ziegelaar, Tim McEwen and Alexander Mackinnon, you will have exposure to some of the best and highest profile initial public offerings, capital raisings and mergers and acquisitions in Australia, as well as a significant volume of cross-border transactions.
Michael was awarded the 2024 Mergers and Acquisitions Partner of the Year (Lawyers Weekly) and the 2024 Partner of the Year Excellence Award (Lawyers Weekly), an award given to the highest-scoring partner of the Lawyers Weekly award finalists. He is also a finalist in the Australasian Lawyer's Dealmakers of the Year awards.
Tim is recognised as one of Australia's best equity capital markets lawyers in the Best Lawyers peer review survey since its inception in 2009 through to 2021, Best Lawyer's 2021 and 2024 Melbourne Equity Capital Markets Lawyer of the Year, a 'Leader in their Field' by Chambers Global, a leading individual for Capital Markets in Asia Pacific Legal 500 and one of Australia's best M&A and funds management lawyers in the Best Lawyers peer review.
The team is high performing and highly engaged with a significant focus on teamwork and learning.
Your Key Responsibilities- Be involved in all aspects of corporate ECM and public and private M&A transactions, including drafting and negotiating key transaction documents and providing advice on all areas of the transaction to clients.
- Work closely with our clients, their other advisers and regulators.
- Ensure key deadlines are met, including working closely with other legal teams across the firm to deliver an integrated service to our clients.
- Assist in building external client relationships, including business development activities for key existing clients and new clients.
- Be an admitted Lawyer in Australia or New Zealand.
- Possess at least 3 years' experience in a leading corporate M&A practice or equivalent, with exposure to ECM transactions.
- An excellent academic record, and a high level of attention to detail.
- A proactive approach and desire to be an integral member of, and contributor to, our leading and supportive team.
- An ability to work to tight timeframes, collaboratively and at times autonomously.
- A curiosity about our clients, and an eagerness to create an exceptional experience for them.
- A genuine passion for corporate law, with a natural desire for continuous learning.
