Job Overview

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for supporting site operations in environmental, sustainability and compliance matters.

  • Provide guidance on legislative and statutory requirements to site operations
  • Assist site operations in preparing and obtaining environmental approvals
  • Promote proactive reporting of environmental hazards, investigate incidents, and follow up corrective actions with site management
  • Liaise with community members and stakeholders as required
  • Carry out workplace inspections to drive environmental compliance through awareness and training
  • Manage the monitoring database for statutory purposes
  • Support rehabilitation planning and execution

To be successful, candidates must have a degree in Environmental Science or equivalent, at least one year of experience in an environmental role within the mining industry onsite, knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and codes of practice, and a sound understanding of environmental risks and impacts associated with mining and mineral processing operations.

A self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, able to manage personal workloads and achieve agreed outcomes, will thrive in this role. They will also be able to work effectively under pressure.

Key Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an environmental role within the mining industry onsite
  • Knowledge of applicable environmental legislation, standards, and codes of practice
  • Sound understanding of environmental risks and impacts associated with mining and mineral processing operations
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
