Indigenous Land Management Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Indigenous Land Management Coordinator to join our team in the Central Kimberley region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the operational delivery of the Gooniyandi ranger program, providing strong leadership to a small team of Indigenous rangers to deliver on their annual works plan. The works plan includes cultural and natural resource management activities, fire management, threatened and pest species management, preservation of cultural sites, on-country trips with senior traditional owners, engagement with the local school, and more.
Key responsibilities include supervising and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Gooniyandi Rangers, working closely with the Gooniyandi Women Coordinator, the Gooniyandi Healthy Country Advisory Committee, and LSMU staff to develop, monitor, and report on Ranger activities. Additionally, the coordinator will ensure effective administrative management of the Ranger program, plan, supervise, and participate in field activities to remote locations, work with and mentor the Rangers to develop their skills and leadership abilities, and support on-the-job training and research projects.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the operational delivery of the Gooniyandi ranger program;
- Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Gooniyandi Rangers;
- Work closely with key stakeholders to develop, monitor, and report on Ranger activities;
- Ensure effective administrative management of the Ranger program;
- Plan, supervise, and participate in field activities to remote locations;
- Mentor and develop the skills and leadership abilities of the Rangers;
- Support on-the-job training and research projects;
- Cultivate relationships with traditional owners and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science, ecology, conservation, anthropology, social science, or community development;
- Proven experience in managing small teams and coordinating on-ground natural and cultural resource management projects, preferably with Indigenous organisations;
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and community consultation skills;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote area;
- Project management skills, including budgeting, planning, grant writing, reporting, and acquittals;
- Proficiency in administration, reporting, computing, and Microsoft Office suite;
- A current valid driver's license and experience operating vehicles and/or heavy-duty machinery in remote off-road conditions;
- A Working with Childrens Check (WCC) or ability to obtain one.
The estimated salary for this position is between $90,000 and $110,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus additional benefits including salary packing, district allowance, rental/mortgage assistance, and five weeks' annual leave.
