Indigenous Fire Officer and Training Specialist

The Indigenous Fire Officer and Training Specialist will play a critical role in supporting Indigenous Rangers in their fire management careers.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement training programs for Indigenous Fire Officers, focusing on landscape scale fire management and carbon abatement schemes.
- Mentor and advise Indigenous Fire Officers on fire operations, including prescribed burning, wildfire suppression, and burn planning.
- Work with Indigenous Ranger teams to deliver fire management programs and support them in understanding and managing emissions abatement schemes.
- Deliver on-the-job training and capacity building for Indigenous Rangers in fire operations, GIS, and other relevant skills.
- Collaborate with the Carbon Program Manager to deliver community education sessions and workshops on savanna fire management and carbon projects.
- Qualification in conservation, land management, or a related field, or significant experience in these areas.
- Familiarity with savanna fire operations and greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies in the Kimberley region.
- Experience in landscape fire management and delivering one-on-one training and mentoring, particularly with Indigenous people.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, government agencies, and NGOs.
- 4WD competence and certification in 4WD recovery, as well as valid manual drivers license.
- Essential: qualification in conservation or land management, familiarity with savanna fire operations, experience in landscape fire management, and ability to work effectively with Indigenous communities.
- Desirable: previous experience in a similar role and proficiency in GIS software.
The salary for this position is estimated at $80,000 - $100,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The role operates out of the KLC Broome Office, with extensive seasonal travel throughout the Kimberley region required.
