About the Role:

The Indigenous Fire Management Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting Indigenous Rangers in their fire management careers across the Kimberley region. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for conservation and land management, who wants to make a meaningful impact in the community.

About the Position:

  • This position is part of a larger initiative to develop the skills and knowledge of Indigenous Rangers in fire management.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with Indigenous Rangers, providing mentorship and support to help them take on leadership roles in fire management.
  • You will be responsible for developing training materials, delivering on-the-job training, and building the capacity of Indigenous Rangers in operations, prescribed burning, fire suppression, burn planning, and basic GIS.
  • Your work will involve collaborating with ranger teams, traditional owners, and other stakeholders to deliver effective fire management programs.
  • You will also support Indigenous Rangers in developing individual fire management plans for Native Title holders, working closely with Traditional Owners, project staff, or teams.
  • In addition to these responsibilities, you will provide administrative support, manage projects, and coordinate activities as required.

Requirements:

You should have experience in landscape fire management, mentoring, and delivering one-on-one training. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to work effectively with Indigenous Rangers, traditional owners, and other stakeholders. You must be self-motivated, organized, and able to meet deadlines. A valid manual driver's license and 4WD competence are essential for this role.

What We Offer:
