Broome, Australia nrmjoEnvironmental jobs, NRM Full time

We are seeking a dedicated professional to fill the role of Carbon Sustainability Manager in our Kimberley Region office.

The Kimberley Land Council (KLC) is a respected Native Title Representative Body, actively facilitating the registration and operation of Indigenous carbon projects. As the recognised authority, we work closely with native title holders and other Kimberley Aboriginal people to support project development and management.

This role involves expanding opportunities across the Kimberley region for Aboriginal Corporations to engage in the carbon economy, while also supporting existing project proponents as their projects mature. This will enable the generation of untied income to help realise traditional owners' aspirations and strengthen the capacity and capability of Native Title groups to manage their country.

In this diverse role, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the KLC's Carbon program, develop systems and processes for consistent delivery frameworks, and oversee carbon project management, including compliance and engagement with auditors. You will also build the capacity of Kimberley Aboriginal Corporations in carbon management through close collaboration and regular presentations at relevant meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Program Management: Contribute to the strategic direction of the KLC's Carbon program, developing systems and processes for consistent delivery frameworks.
  • CER Offset Reporting: Oversee CER offset reporting and engagement with auditors, identifying and resolving complex legislative and technical issues related to project operation.
  • Capacity Building: Build the capacity of Kimberley Aboriginal Corporations in carbon management through close collaboration and regular presentations at relevant meetings.
  • Regional Collaboration: Facilitate regional collaboration within the sector, strengthening the KLC's network of external partnerships.
  • Financial Administration: Manage financial, grant, and project administration, ensuring timely reporting to partner/funder/client requirements.
  • Resource Development: Develop resources and materials to support Kimberley Aboriginal Corporations in carbon management.
  • Commercial Partnerships: Support indigenous carbon project proponents in establishing effective commercial partnerships that recognise the premium nature of Kimberley indigenous carbon projects.
  • Industry Development: Collaborate with other indigenous organisations and participate in regional/industry bodies to promote industry development and regional collaborations.
  • Internal Relationships: Establish strong internal working relationships, enabling effective leveraging of KLC resources and internal support.

Benefits:

  • A competitive salary ($80,000 - $110,000 per annum) and additional benefits, including access to salary packing and a district allowance.
  • An opportunity to make a meaningful impact on First Nations people in the Kimberley region.
  • Ongoing learning and development programs to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Commercial acumen and awareness of commercial implications related to indigenous cultural and intellectual property.
  • Proven effectiveness at stakeholder engagement and management, ideally in a cross-cultural context and related to the carbon industry.
  • Experience in contract management with an ability to rapidly acquire product knowledge and leverage it to the benefit of traditional owners.
  • Excellent communication, liaison, negotiation, and facilitation skills and a capacity to establish and maintain internal and external networks.
  • Familiarity with QGIS or ArcGIS or the ability to learn.
  • Experience in quality assurance and quality control in a regulated environment.
  • Project management skills and an ability to set direction to achieve deliverables.
  • Commitment to the empowerment of indigenous peoples and an ability to foster good working relationships with Kimberley Aboriginal people.
  • Ability to take ownership and show initiative, leveraging solid judgment on priorities and issues as they arise.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of financial/budget management.
  • Conflict resolution skills and the ability to manage complex issues effectively.
  • Three years supervisory experience in a related role.
  • A current valid driver's license and a Working with Children Check (WCC).

Desirable:

  • Experience with successful carbon project development and operation under the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF), and working knowledge of the broader Australian carbon market and related legislation.
  • An understanding of indigenous savanna fire management, including its co-benefits.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Tertiary degree in a related field.
