Job Description

The Research Fellow will work with Professor Michael Fuhrer and Professor Stefan Maier using ultrafast laser spectroscopy in the visible, mid-infrared, and terahertz ranges to understand the mechanisms of light absorption and thermalization in graphene metamaterials.

The Research Fellow will work closely with a team of researchers to design and simulate graphene metamaterials for strong light-matter interactions in the mid-infrared. They will fabricate structures at the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication and measure their optical and electrical properties.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and simulate graphene metamaterials for strong light-matter interactions in the mid-infrared.
  2. Fabricate structures at the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication.
  3. Measure the optical and electrical properties of the fabricated structures.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A PhD in Physics, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Research experience in ultrafast science is essential.
  • Experience in at least one of the following would be highly regarded:
    • Metamaterials design and/or fabrication.
    • Graphene and/or other 2D materials fabrication and measurement.
    • Electronic and/or optoelectronic device measurements.
