The Supreme Court of Victoria is seeking a highly ambitious, legally qualified individual to join the team as an Associate to Associate Justice Steffensen and Associate Justice Barrett. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the Associate Judges Division, observing a variety of civil matters, including interlocutory applications and trials.
The Associate Justices practice predominately in the Commercial Court and carry out judicial mediations across the civil jurisdiction. Her Honour Associate Justice Steffensen is also the Senior Master of Funds in Court.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing administrative tasks, including maintaining court records and preparing material for use by the judge in court. They will also be required to clerk in court, liaise with court staff, the public and the profession, and conduct legal research, proofreading and fact-checking.
Key Responsibilities
Performing administrative tasks, including maintaining court records and preparing material for use by the judge in court
Clerking in court
Liaising with court staff, the public and the profession
Legal research, proofreading and fact-checking
Document management and file review
Assisting with the production of judgments, including proofreading and editing
Attending judicial mediations
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a strong academic record and excellent organisational, research and written communication skills. They will also have personal qualities suitable for liaising with the profession and public.
