Emotional Support Professional

As an Emotional Support Professional, you will provide support to our students and families, working with staff to enhance their capacity to cater for diverse learning needs.

This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity based within our MacKillop Specialist School in Melbourne, VIC. The position reports to the Campus Principal.

Key Requirements:

  • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
  • Current registration as a qualified professional with the relevant authority – required qualification only
  • Preferred qualification (Master's or Doctoral level) or relevant degree in Counselling or Social Work.
  • Experience in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Practice knowledge relevant to working with traumatised and vulnerable children, young people, and families, including child development and trauma-informed interventions.
  • A well-developed understanding of Attachment and Trauma Theories, and an ability to assist others to understand their implications.
  • Practice knowledge relevant to working with neurodivergent children and young people, and a well-developed understanding of the social model of disability and neuro-affirmative interventions.
  • Experience in working with primary school students who are vulnerable and present with social, emotional and/or cognitive differences.
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary framework, including educational staff.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills, including capacity to develop positive relationships with students, parents, caregivers, staff, and external agencies.
  • Evidence of personal values consistent with our organisational values, including a willingness to embrace our Sanctuary Model and Commitments.
