
Culturally Sensitive Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to fill the role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Specialist.
This position plays a critical part in strengthening cultural connection and awareness across services, enhancing the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples accessing support in QLD.
- Create culturally appropriate resources and training materials for staff and clients.
- Facilitate or support Yarning Circles and Learning Circles that align with the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework.
- Conduct regular reviews of the site environment to ensure cultural safety.
- Work with the clinical team to ensure individual case plans reflect cultural needs.
- Develop localised strategies to communicate and embed cultural capability practices.
- BUILD AND MAINTAIN PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDIGENOUS ORGANISATIONS TO IMPROVE PARTICIPANT ACCESS AND SUPPORT PATHWAYS.
- Stay informed on relevant state and national policies affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Key requirements:
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (This is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (QLD)).
- Has relevant experience in a similar role.
- Can engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers.
- Has a strong understanding of contemporary challenges and strengths within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Can provide culturally appropriate responses to complex and diverse community needs.
- Can influence and support leadership in delivering culturally informed services.
