Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group

We're inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and community members from across Australia to join our advisory group.

The group is responsible for maintaining the cultural integrity of a special library, ensuring that books are culturally respectful, inclusive, and truly reflect the voices and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As a valued advisor, advocate, and connector, you'll help us build strong community ties and share our work far and wide.

This part-time role can be done remotely and offers a small honorarium for your cultural input into each meeting. The terms of the contribution will be discussed in an interview.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing advice on cultural and social matters related to publishing.
  • Ensuring our books are respectful and appropriate.
  • Promoting our work through your networks and community.
  • Supporting us in building partnerships and finding funding.
  • Being part of a team that values collaboration and cultural safety.

Requirements:

  • Identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Bringing your cultural knowledge and lived experience to the table.
  • Being reliable, respectful, and passionate about storytelling.
  • Having expertise in not-for-profits, business strategy, publishing, education, or children's librarianship.

What's Involved:

  • Attending at least 3 meetings per year (each about 2 hours).
  • Staying in touch via email and meetings.
  • Supporting the program in small ways outside of meetings.
  • Helping us keep the space culturally safe and respectful.
