The Education and Engagement Officer plays a critical role in connecting the library and its collection with ACT Schools and the wider community.

This position requires extensive internal liaison with Libraries ACT services areas, as well as with other business units within Transport Canberra and City Services, other ACT Government Directorates, and external organisations.

Key Tasks
  • Create and evaluate curriculum support materials to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Organise and manage annual public events to attract visitors to the library, promoting a culture of lifelong learning.
  • Assist the public in the Reading Room and handle Officer in Charge duties when needed, ensuring a positive customer experience.
  • Contribute to delivering services and programmes that meet the needs of the community, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
  • Train and support staff on branch operations, programmes, customer service, and safety, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Implement and communicate branch policies and procedures as part of the management team, ensuring compliance with organisational standards.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A strong understanding of curriculum development for either primary or secondary schools, with the ability to create engaging and effective learning materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ACT Community, history, and current affairs, with the ability to provide strategic services that meet the needs of the community.
  • Experience in managing and reporting on budgets, contracts, project plans, program evaluation, and key deliverables, with the ability to analyse data and make informed decisions.
Compliance Requirements

This position requires:

  • A Bachelor of Education (primary or secondary) and/or tertiary GLAM sector qualifications, with a strong understanding of educational principles and practices.
  • A Working with Vulnerable People Check, ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals.
