Position Overview

The Education and Engagement Officer is essential in bridging the library's resources with educational institutions and the broader community. This role necessitates significant collaboration with various Libraries ACT service areas, as well as engagement with other divisions within Transport Canberra and City Services, ACT Government Directorates, and external entities.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Education and Engagement Officer will:

  • Develop and assess educational support materials tailored for curriculum needs.
  • Plan and execute annual public events aimed at increasing library visitation.
  • Assist patrons in the Reading Room and assume Officer in Charge responsibilities as required.
  • Contribute to the delivery of services and programs.
  • Provide training and support to staff regarding branch operations, programs, customer service, and safety protocols.
  • Implement and communicate branch policies and procedures as part of the management team.

The library operates six days a week, and this position requires flexibility to work weekday and weekend shifts on a rotating schedule.

Qualifications and Skills
Professional / Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of or experience in curriculum development for primary or secondary education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ACT community, including its history and current affairs, is highly regarded for providing strategic services.
  • Experience in managing budgets, contracts, project plans, program evaluations, and key deliverables.
Compliance Requirements
  • As this is an identified position, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants will be considered, and supporting evidence must accompany the application.
  • Bachelor of Education (primary or secondary) and/or relevant qualifications in the GLAM sector.
  • A Working with Vulnerable People Check is required for this position.
