Technology Infrastructure Support Specialist

As a Technology Infrastructure Support Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical support to various programs and projects. Your primary focus will be on delivering new capabilities and sustaining existing hardware.

The role involves working with servers, blade centers, network devices, transmission equipment, and other related components. You will also be required to upgrade firmware using different installation techniques and perform systems administrative work on RHEL systems.

This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension. You will be based in Canberra and will work independently, exercising substantial personal responsibility and autonomy.

• Demonstrated experience in customer service delivery and service desk operations with a strong customer service focus.
• Experience in upgrading firmware using several installation techniques/options on devices, such as network switches, routers, power distribution units, etc.
• Systems administrative work conducted on RHEL systems for commissioning and sustaining systems.
• Practical knowledge of data transmission networks, MAN, and WAN.
• Practical knowledge of data center design, including AC & DC power systems, cooling, access, and security.

You will have the opportunity to work on large roll-outs of ICT infrastructure within project-controlled data centers. You will also be required to undertake data center and/or telecommunications hardware builds/maintenance and manage the environments they are used in.

In addition, you will be responsible for transitioning delivered capability to operations, including asset management. You will also install and configure network connected equipment and perform basic fault investigations as they arise.

You will identify and assess risks associated with project activities and develop strategies to reduce those risks. You will also analytically troubleshoot using device logs or fault codes and assist with preparation of status reports.

Furthermore, you will prepare other project documentation, including work packages, project, and support plans. You will also undertake procurement activities necessary for successful delivery of capability.

As a Technology Infrastructure Support Specialist, you will work under general direction within a clear framework of accountability, exercising substantial personal responsibility and autonomy. You will influence customers, suppliers, and partners at account level, with some responsibility for the work of others and resource allocation.

You will participate in external activities related to your specialism, making decisions that influence project success and team objectives. You will also work with complex technical or professional activities in various contexts, investigating, defining, and resolving issues.

You will maintain accurate records of user requests, contract details, and outcomes. You will contribute to development of installation procedures and standards. You will define, document, and carry out small projects or sub-projects, actively participating in all phases, identifying assessing, and managing project risks.

You will agree project approach with stakeholders, prepare realistic plans, track activities against the project schedule, and manage stakeholder involvement. You will monitor costs, timescales, and resources used, acting when deviations occur from agreed tolerances.

Finally, you will close and review your own projects, recording lessons learned. You will control IT assets in significant areas, ensuring administration of acquisition, storage, distribution, movement, and disposal of assets.
