Expert Palliative Medicine Consultant

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District is seeking an experienced consultant to provide expert services in palliative medicine.

This permanent position offers a dynamic opportunity for a palliative care physician to provide medical assessment and management of patients in the palliative care service.

The staff specialist will be part of a team responsible for providing specialist palliative care services to community, emergency patients, consultative services, and inpatients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide medical care of palliative care patients in the community directly and through supporting other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • To provide a hospital consult service for in-patients at Wollongong, Shellharbour, Bulli and Coledale Hospitals
  • To provide medical care of palliative care patients admitted in the specialist palliative care unit
  • To participate in out-patient clinics and provide support to the community palliative care teams
  • To participate in the Palliative Care after hours on call roster across ISLHD (Illawarra and Shoalhaven)
  • To provide supervision to Advanced Trainees, JMOs and medical students
  • Above roles may be shared amongst other staff specialists within the team on a rotational basis
