Job Description:

This role is part of the Family Dispute Resolution Service (FDRS) that provides lawyer-assisted family dispute resolution to help families resolve disputes for parenting issues, property division, spousal and partner maintenance, adult child maintenance, and international child abduction. In parenting matters, we promote the rights of children and young people to participate through our Kids Talk program and have a voice in decisions that affect them.

The role will support FDRS by working closely with the Managing Child Specialist to deliver Kids Talk Services at FDRS, as well as related policy and project work, and providing case management services in complex parenting matters. The Kids Talk work includes meeting with young people to explore their experience of their family situation using appropriate engagement strategies, providing feedback to parents and other caregivers, and preparing confidential written reports.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of family law and practice, specifically where it relates to policies and legislation relevant to separating families.
  • Experience in meeting with children and young people, providing feedback to parents, and preparing written reports for use in family dispute resolution or similar services.
  • Ability to work autonomously, balance competing priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills.
