About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Centre Engineer to join our team in Melbourne. As a key member of our engineering operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centres, providing technical guidance and support to our engineers, and contributing to the development of new facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-call escalation rosters across the data centre region
  • Manage contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure all work is performed in accordance with established practices and procedures
  • Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance
  • Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for events managed by DCEO
  • Work with DC managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency
  • Establish documentation relevant to business and facility operations
  • Install racks and provide power/cooling within constraints
  • Review routine maintenance and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new facilities
  • Drive and implement projects to increase current facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability
  • Manage facility assets and provide infrastructure and inventory asset management
  • Attend and participate in regular construction and operational meetings as required
  • Familiar with work order compliance to ensure contractual SLAs are achieved
  • Interface with Infra Ops management for day-to-day operational requirements
  • Assist in recruiting efforts
  • Resolve infrastructure engineering or services issues
  • Provide day-to-day technical oversight and guidance to a team of engineering operations technicians

A Day in the Life

No two days are the same in our data centres, but typically, your day will include:

  • Attending operational meetings to foster awareness of important activities across the Melbourne data centre region
  • Mentoring and developing less-experienced engineering operations technicians
  • Planning and scheduling maintenance activities for critical infrastructure
  • Collaborating on solving complex engineering problems impacting critical infrastructure
  • Collaborating with other AWS data centre regions globally
  • Attending project meetings to influence the design and build of new facilities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Team leadership skills
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in maintaining a DC or other critical space facility
  • Familiarity with service management systems (problem & change)
  • Experience with developing MOPs & SWMS for planned works

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or technical qualifications and relevant experience
  • 6+ years of data centre engineering/operations experience
  • 4+ years of data centre management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or relevant discipline

Salary: AU$120,000 - AU$180,000 per annum
