Job Summary:

The Environmental Technical Officer will play a key role in improving treatment processes using HACCP standards across the site, ensuring efficient and safe plant and equipment maintenance. This position requires collaboration with the Environmental Team to meet environmental license and standard requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the operation and maintenance of trade waste plants, water recycling facilities, beverages water treatment plants, and other relevant equipment in line with reliability requirements, the Site Environmental Management Plan, corporate standards, government regulations, and agreed budgets.
  • Manage the trade waste laboratory, including conducting field and laboratory tests, analyzing results, controlling laboratory supplies, checking, calibrating, and maintaining equipment.
  • Promote the preservation and maintenance of activated sludge biology by preparing slides, staining, observing results under a microscope, and reporting findings.
  • Identify, support, and evaluate resource efficiency and environmental opportunities and projects.
  • Action and influence LEAN cost-down initiatives and continuous improvement projects, delivering best practice processes and technology within the area of control.
  • E nsure employees work within all appropriate standards for the department (ISO, HACCP, Food Safety reporting, Supply Chain, Waste Management), including Conditions of Entry.
  • Collaborate with internal and external project teams to identify, investigate, and implement water and wastewater treatment improvement projects.
  • Deliver team and project outcomes within budget by tracking costs, KPIs, and developing effective reporting mechanisms with the Environmental Manager and Environmental Team.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Environmental Team on daily operations and ensure the effective management of employee leave entitlements to minimize interruption of operations.
  • Support the Environmental Manager in implementing contingency plans and provide advice on unexpected events' impact, taking necessary actions when water and wastewater problems arise.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and constructive culture to internal customers, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Act as an active contributing member of the Emergency Response Team within the Pollution Incident Response role.
  • Ensure the team completes required training for their job roles, including Training Checklists, WHS training related to tasks, and Mandatory Training by due dates.
  • E nsure Kronos data entry is accurate and compliant with applicable industrial instrument conditions.
  • Assist in forecasting labour requirements and recommend changes in equipment, work layout, production methods, and material handling procedures.
  • Contribute to maintaining a culture aligned with Company values, promoting good morale and attitudes within the department.

    Requirements:

    • Cert IV in Environmental Management and Sustainability or equivalent.
    • Cert or Diploma in Project Management (desirable).
    • Working knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, standards, regulations, and principles.
    • Knowledge of Water and/or Industrial Trade Waste treatment.
    • Management systems expertise, including LEAN, HACCP, WHS.
    • SCADA system competency and Microsoft Office proficiency.
    • Pollution incident response experience, including Hazmat.
    • Familiarity with SAP.
    • Current Working in Confined Space ticket or willingness to obtain one.
    • Ability to work onsite 5 days a week.
