We are seeking a senior operational leader to manage our open cut mine sites and drive production targets in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for championing a proactive safety culture, leading the development and execution of the annual mining business plan, and providing strategic oversight of open cut operations.

  • Champion a proactive safety culture by ensuring compliance with the site's Safety and Health Management Plan, leading safety initiatives, and fostering open communication across all teams.
  • Lead the development, execution, and tracking of the annual Mining Business Plan, driving continuous improvement and embedding best practice operational standards.
  • Provide strategic oversight of open cut operations, including short, medium, and long term mine planning, with a focus on optimisation, cost efficiency, and sustainable production outcomes.
  • Oversee the integration and scheduling of people and equipment to align with mine planning objectives, ensuring efficient and reliable delivery of operational targets.
  • Identify operational risks and cost variances early, escalate critical issues with solutions, and implement strategies to meet or exceed physical and financial performance targets.
  • Manage departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with unit cost objectives and effective utilisation of site assets to meet production and maintenance goals.
  • Lead contractor performance within the Mining department, ensuring accountability, safety, and alignment with operational objectives.
Lifestyle:

This position offers a 9-day fortnight roster (Monday to Friday, Monday to Thursday) and supports a DIDO or FIFO lifestyle. The company is also open to providing relocation support to the Moranbah or Mackay region.

About You:

Applicants should have a strong background in open cut coal mining, delivering results through high performing teams and driving continuous improvement on site. With experience in open cut coal mining operations, applicants should bring a blend of operational and technical services experience, allowing them to understand the full mining value chain and make confident, data-informed decisions.

  • Proven leadership in open cut operations, ideally with experience in production and sound understanding of technical services.
  • Strong commercial acumen with skills in cost management, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Confident communicator with experience engaging senior leadership, regulators, and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with integrated management systems and Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of mining engineering packages is advantageous.
  • Sound understanding of coal mining legislation and risk management principles.
  • Ability to obtain or work towards a Surface Mine Managers qualification in line with statutory qualification requirements.
  • Qualifications in ICAM and Risk Assessment Facilitation are desirable.
  • Statutory qualifications such as SSE or OCE are highly regarded but not mandatory, the business will support you in obtaining them.
  • Tertiary qualifications in mining are preferred but not mandatory.
