Therapeutic Legal Specialist
">We are seeking a Therapeutic Legal Specialist to join our team, providing high-quality legal advice and representation in the Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) and other Courts and Tribunals. You will be responsible for mentoring and supervising junior lawyers, supporting their professional growth, and ensuring they understand ARC processes.
">About the Role:
">- This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to therapeutic approaches in the justice system by addressing the needs of accused persons with mental illness or cognitive impairment.">
- You will provide expert legal advice on complex cases, utilizing your knowledge of mental health and disability law.">
- You will oversee the delivery of VLA duty lawyer services in the ARC and assist in developing policies and strategies to improve ARC services and access to justice.">
About You:
">- Extensive experience in criminal law, particularly in complex cases and using therapeutic approaches in the justice system.">
- Knowledge or practical experience in mental health and/or disability law, with the ability to navigate legal issues affecting vulnerable clients.">
- A strong ability to mentor and supervise junior lawyers, providing them with guidance and helping them develop their skills and understanding.">
- Experience working with people with mental health issues, intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, or other neurological impairments.">
- An understanding of the challenges impacting people experiencing mental illness and cognitive impairment accessing services and related systems.">
