We are seeking an experienced Peer Support Specialist to join our team in Port Macquarie. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will work closely with carers, staff, and community members to provide peer support, education, and training. You will utilize your lived experience and skills to facilitate support groups, offer secondary consultation, and participate in monthly peer supervision sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 peer support to carers, drawing on your personal experiences and skills to foster empathetic relationships
  • Facilitate support groups and offer secondary consultation to promote holistic, family-inclusive practices
  • Pursue opportunities for professional development through formal and informal training, our leadership pipeline, and discipline-specific learning
  • Participate in monthly peer supervision and reflective practice sessions to ensure alignment with recovery-oriented frameworks

Requirements

">

To be successful in this role, you will need:

">
  • Lived experience as a primary carer for someone with mental illness or substance dependence
  • Excellent group facilitation, written and verbal communication, and IT proficiency skills
  • Dedication to human rights, social justice, and trauma-informed care, with experience working in diverse communities highly desirable
  • Maintain professional boundaries, practice self-care, and adopt a positive, person-centred approach
  • Hold or be working towards a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, Intentional Peer Support core training, or Single Session Family Consultation training for carer peer workers (highly desirable)

Location and Salary

This role is based in Port Macquarie, with outreach work within the community. The estimated annual salary for this position is $67,556 - $83,594, depending on experience.
