About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Operations Specialist to join our team at Macquarie University. As a key member of our IT operations team, you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining our cloud-based systems, with a focus on Kubernetes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and manage Kubernetes clusters.
  • Monitor cluster health, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance.
  • Implement security best practices for Kubernetes environments.
  • Work with cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure) to provision and manage resources.
  • Set up networking, storage, and compute components.
  • Automate infrastructure tasks using tools like Terraform or Ansible.
  • Respond to incidents promptly, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Applications and Operations teams to resolve issues affecting cloud services.
  • Participate in CI/CD pipeline development for application deployment.
  • Ensure smooth releases and updates using Git, ArgoCD, or other CI/CD tools.
  • Set up monitoring solutions (e.g., Prometheus) to track system performance.
  • Create alerts and dashboards for proactive issue detection.
  • Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Share knowledge with team members and contribute to internal documentation.

About You

We are looking for an experienced IT professional with strong understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals and experience in deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters in production environments. You will have knowledge of IT service management concepts and experience with their application in an enterprise work environment supporting both cloud and hybrid on-premises infrastructure configurations. In addition, you will have knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems as well as Linux skills and understanding of network fundamentals. Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Podman, JIB) is required to perform well in this role.
