This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Department of Ophthalmology at Westmead Hospital as a highly skilled specialist in glaucoma surgery.
The successful applicant will participate in ophthalmology clinics, perform operative procedures, supervise registrars and residents, and contribute to teaching and education. They may also be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.
The department provides outpatient and inpatient assessment services, ophthalmic surgical services, and community-based chronic care management. The multidisciplinary team includes medical, nursing, allied health, administrative, and managerial staff working together to deliver high-quality patient care.
The outpatient ophthalmology service sees patients with acute, chronic, and emergency eye conditions, performing routine and emergency eye surgery and offering a 24/7 on-call system for Westmead Hospital. The community-based chronic eye care management clinic, CEYEC, is an innovative model of care for patients who require ongoing surveillance but do not meet the criteria for acute hospital care.
The service accepts referrals from general practitioners, optometrists, private ophthalmologists, and internal referrals from other outpatient departments and emergency departments.
To be successful in this role, applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration and possess sound clinical knowledge in ophthalmology and glaucoma surgery.
They must also demonstrate high-level interpersonal and communication skills, familiarity with research concepts, and a commitment to quality assurance activities, evidence-based practice, and teaching and supervision.
Key Selection Criteria
- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO)
- Sound clinical knowledge in ophthalmology and glaucoma surgery
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills and attitudes
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based practice
