Job Summary:

The role of an Aviation Meteorologist is to provide accurate and timely weather forecasts and warnings for the aviation industry.

This includes preparing and issuing a range of products such as TAF, GAF, AIRMET, SIGMET, Aerodrome Weather Briefing, Wind Shear Warnings, Aerodrome Warnings, Ditching Reports, Search and Rescue forecasts and FIFOR.

As part of a team, the Aviation Meteorologist will contribute to the development of forecast policy and collaborate with other meteorologists to ensure the provision of a consistent suite of services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and issue weather forecasts and warnings
  • Develop and maintain forecasting competencies
  • Collaborate with other meteorologists to ensure the provision of a consistent suite of services
  • Contribute to the development of forecast policy
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Basic Instruction Package for Meteorologists (BIP-M) qualification as a minimum
  • One year's experience in an operational meteorological service delivery environment desirable
  • Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster competency required
  • Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre Forecaster competency required for Hazardous Weather Unit role
