Job Overview

The Freight Rate Procurement Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the competitiveness of ocean freight rates. This individual is responsible for fostering strong relationships with ocean carriers, providing market insights, and driving long-term partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategically negotiate FAKs, bundled rates, and contract agreements to secure competitive pricing.
  • Develop and maintain carrier relationships, aligning procurement strategies with business objectives.
  • Monitor carrier performance, ensuring compliance with Minimum Quantity Commitments (MQCs) and agreed terms.
Tender and RFQ Management
  • Oversee tender receipt, registration, and timely response, maintaining a comprehensive repository of submissions.
  • Ensure tender requirements are met, preparing clear and competitive proposals in collaboration with the tender management team.
  • Provide value-added information to support sales and improve win rates.
Product Development & Management
  • Contribute to the development of ocean freight products, ensuring definitions align with global standards.
  • Enhance relationships with ocean carriers, driving improved procurement results through strategic partnerships.
Process Optimization & Compliance
  • Streamline procurement processes, supporting minimum selling rate guidelines and regional procurement strategies.
  • Regularly report on procurement performance, rate competitiveness, and carrier utilization.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Rate Competitiveness: Secure competitive rates aligned with market benchmarks and tender requirements.
  • Carrier Utilization: Fulfil MQCs and strengthen key carrier relationships.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in ocean freight rate procurement, carrier negotiation, or related roles in freight forwarding.
  • Proficiency in ocean freight products, procurement strategies, and carrier dynamics.
