Senior Public Affairs Officer Position

Our organization is seeking a strategic communicator with a strong interest in public affairs, media relations, and community engagement to fill the role of Senior Public Affairs Officer.

As a key member of our Strategic Communications & Engagement team, you will contribute to public affairs activities and help shape strategies that maintain and enhance our position with the community and stakeholders. Your work will involve managing traditional and social media content and engagement, monitoring community sentiment, and improving the connection between us and the community.

  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations or similar field along with experience in a similar role are required.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to translate complex information into publicly accessible content are essential.
  • A good understanding of public affairs, media communications and stakeholder engagement disciplines is necessary for success in this role.
  • Familiarity with the local government context and working environment is beneficial.
  • A strong working knowledge of social media and digital platforms is expected.
  • The ability to manage media releases and responses effectively is also important.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including content development capabilities, are required.
  • Relating well to the public, elected members, media, management and staff is crucial for success in this role.
