The Role

This role involves working as a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team. The Medical Receptionist Reliever will be the first point of contact required to ensure patient flow is conducted with minimal interruptions. This will involve effectively using time management skills, informative communication skills, and observing the overall demeanour of patients in waiting. Excellent patient care relies on accurate and timely medical administration processes.

You will support the ATSICHS Brisbane environment to build a sense of teamwork within the team and ATSICHS family. Staff will actively participate in team activities and contribute to a flourishing workplace culture that promotes the ethos and values of ATSICHS Brisbane as a long-standing Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation.

Duties
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Model of Care, particularly leading and supporting the function of the medical reception.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow through effective use of clinic calendars, displaying exceptional phone manner when taking calls or messages.
  • Handle GP referrals appropriately.
  • Ensure recall functions align with ATSICHS policies and procedures.
  • Handle patient correspondence according to ATSICHS Privacy Policy and Procedures.
  • Commit to ongoing continuous quality improvement processes, including annual reviews into the efficiency of service provision.
  • Ensure the Medical Service Billing function aligns with ATSICHS policies and procedures.

  • Willingness to learn.
  • Availability across Monday-Saturday.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders, respecting traditional culture and ways of doing business.
Preferences
  • Previous experience working in an administration and/or service coordination role.
  • Experience working within an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service.
  • Previous experience working with an electronic Patient Management System such as MMEx.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Australian Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) and the Medicare system and Practice Incentive Programs (PIP).
  • Certificate III Business Administration (or equivalent).
  • Organisation skills, including an ability to multi-task, plan, set and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines, and work independently, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Interpersonal communication skills demonstrating problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
  • Interpersonal skills focused on client outcomes.
