Senior Geologist

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist to join our team at Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited. As a key member of our geology team, you will play a critical role in providing guidance and assistance to our operations team in mining geology, drilling, sampling, and assaying procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Geological Systems Oversight: Assist the Mine Geologists in geological systems, including the creation and updating of the Planning Model and end-of-month reporting and reconciliation.
- 3D Geological Modelling: Oversee the operations 3D geological modelling and block modelling using appropriate software and review the Geostatistical analysis on resources and grade control programs.
- QA/QC Policy Enforcement: Ensure corporate QA/QC policy and procedures are followed and act as the operations custodian for QA/QC.
- Drilling and Data Collection: Define and optimize required drilling/data collection for geology, geotechnical, hydrogeology, and metallurgy, working with SMEs across various disciplines to maximize value (data collected) for drilling expenditure and ensure alignment with Harmony standards.
- Drill Program Management: Ensure appropriate resourcing for all aspects of drill programs, working with regional and asset exploration and geology teams to define and control drilling, logging, sampling, and assay budgets, including contractor and consultant management.
- Contractor and Service Provider Management: Evaluate, support, manage, and recommend contractors and service providers for all aspects of operations and projects, where relevant, scope, tender, administer, and modify these contracts on an ongoing basis.
- Operational Personnel Development: Develop, train, and coach operational personnel to broaden and improve their skill base.
- Continuous Improvement: Encourage colleagues and employees to investigate and trial new ideas, methods, and technology to ensure continuous improvement throughout.
- Technical and Operational Contributions: Influence and positively contribute to the larger Harmony technical and operational teams by assisting with the development and improvement of processes and procedures.
To succeed in this role, you should be a highly experienced engineering professional, self-motivated, and able to work efficiently and collaboratively, holding the following qualifications and experience:
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification: A relevant tertiary qualification in Geology.
- Experience: 8-10 years of experience covering a broad range of aspects such as exploration, production geology, and project study.
- Software Experience: Experience with mining and geological software packages (e.g., Deswik, Surpac, Datamine, Supervisor, Leapfrog, or Isatis).
- Computer Experience: Proven computer experience, including Microsoft software suite.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
