Position Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all facets of underground geological activities, including the training and development of team members, diamond drilling for grade control, geological mapping, and resource reconciliation, adhering to the company's geological standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee geological grade control and production operations.
- Accountable for mine-to-mill reconciliations and reporting of resources.
- Manage drilling initiatives, including target identification, program design, execution, and data oversight.
- Create 3D geological models and resource assessments to enhance understanding of deposits and ensure precise grade control prior to extraction.
- Uphold high standards in geological practices, systems, and procedures.
- Promote a culture of health, safety, and environmental awareness, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.
- Conduct routine logging of production cores, including downhole surveys and intersection calculations, addressing any discrepancies.
- Perform underground geological mapping, sampling, quality assurance, reporting, and data management tasks.
- Engage in stope definition targeting, drillhole design, geological interpretation, and modeling.
- Collaborate with the Resource Geologist on underground geological modeling and resource estimation.
- Prepare resource estimates and reserve depletion reports in conjunction with the Underground Engineer.
- Monitor geological systems and processes, identifying opportunities for improvement and developing innovative solutions.
- Assist management in implementing change initiatives and business enhancement projects.
Qualifications
- Degree in Geology or a related discipline.
- Membership in professional organizations such as AusIMM or AIG.
- Proficient in geological mapping, logging, and interpretation.
- Knowledgeable in geostatistics and ore reserve estimation techniques.
- Strong understanding of sampling methodologies and theories.
- Familiarity with grade control practices in underground mining.
- Experience managing technical aspects of drilling programs.
- Basic knowledge of geotechnical and metallurgical processes.
- Ability to interpret stope-scale geological data.
- Proven leadership skills with a focus on safety and team development.
- Comprehensive understanding of mining legislation and safety regulations.
- Experience in budget management and cost control.
- Demonstrated ability to apply continuous improvement strategies.
- Capability to develop 3D geological models using Datamine software.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in 3D Datamine/Minesight for evaluating underground targets.
