Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Geologist to join our team at Tri-Star Admin Pty Ltd. As a key member of our Geoscience department, you will be responsible for evaluating and interpreting subsurface geological data to inform decisions on our Australian projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Subsurface Evaluation
    • Collect, interpret, and integrate geological data from various sources, including well logs, core tests, seismic surveys, and field observations.
    • Develop and maintain technical databases that include key geological information to inform project evaluation.
    • Complete well log interpretation and correlations using basic logs.
    • Analyze geological and geophysical data to create maps on a regional and local scale that identify potential oil or gas deposits.
    • Assess the geological chance of success of an exploration target and calculate volumetrics. Use geological data and maps to justify assessment.
    • Identify knowledge gaps and develop scope of works for technical professionals to support workflows where required.
    • Manage consultants and project budgets to deliver geological aspects of technical workflows that are outside of Tri-Star's internal skill set.
    • Develop technical proposals for planned exploration activities and justify recommendations using geological information. Clearly articulate geological hazards associated with the recommended program.
    • Work closely with the Engineering Team and other professionals to develop drilling plans and evaluation strategies to mitigate risks to ensure the success of exploration efforts.
    • Support the operations team during project execution, ensuring all technical objectives are met.
    • Represent Tri-Star on technical committees or in Joint Venture Meetings.
    • Work autonomously as required and with a focus on achieving results. Highly organized, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail.
    • Apply Petroleum and Coal experience to assess new opportunities consistent with the approved division strategies.
  • Requirements
    • Tertiary qualifications in Geology.
    • At least 10 years' experience in technical and/or government statutory and compliance reporting.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
    • Manage the delivery of all work allocated in a timely, cost-effective, and efficient manner.
    • Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
    • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
    • Strong understanding of geological software (Petrel or equivalent) and data analysis tools.
    • A key feature of the role is to have experience across multiple play types and commodities, including conventional oil and gas plays, unconventional oil and gas plays, and coal mining opportunities.
