The Opportunity

Are you passionate about ensuring the highest standards of animal wellbeing? AWL NSW is seeking Expressions of Interest from dedicated individuals who would like to join our team in a crucial role supporting exceptional care for animals under our guardianship.

As a Casual Animal Attendant, you will play a vital role in maintaining operational excellence and ensuring every animal receives the highest standard of care. You'll also contribute to a positive experience for our customers, volunteers, and the wider community.

This EOI will allow us to build a talent pool of committed people who are ready to make a meaningful impact on animal welfare and support AWL NSW's mission.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Care

  • Provide and improve environmental enrichment
  • Exercise the animals
  • Feed animals as per feeding plans
  • Observe animals for injury, illness and behavioural problems and report to supervisors accordingly
  • Assist with veterinary examinations as required
  • Check animals for identification
  • Ensure appropriate housing for animals
  • Washing and grooming
  • Adhere to animal handling standards and procedures
  • Ensure animal, public, and staff areas are clean and cleaning procedures are adhered to
  • Record and maintain accurate animal record

Animal training

  • Provide animal training
  • Adhere to rehabilitation plans

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Work cohesively with the AWL team
  • Develop and maintain positive cohesive relationships with customers, team members, volunteers, and external stakeholders
  • Assist customers in viewing and selecting new pets

Experience & Qualifications

  • Certificate II in Animal Care or equivalent
  • Experience working with animals in a shelter, boarding kennels, zoo or similar environment
  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Animal handling skills
  • Demonstrated affinity with animals
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
