Animal Care Specialist Job Description

We are seeking an Animal Care Specialist to oversee the health and wellbeing of animals used in research, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.

  • Ensure the health and wellbeing of animals within our facilities.
  • Provide expert support for animal-related experiments.
  • Promote a collaborative environment between staff, investigators, and animal user groups.
  • Evaluate animal welfare and environmental indicators, recommending improvements as needed.

Your key responsibilities will include developing protocols for animal welfare and veterinary services, supporting Investigators and animal user groups in Animal Ethics Applications and reporting, and representing us at monthly Animal Ethics Committee meetings.

You will also investigate and manage adverse incidents, report to the AEC, inspect animal facilities regularly, train research users and staff to meet animal welfare requirements, stay current with scientific literature and industry developments, and provide consultation over phone or video call in the event of emergencies outside of regular work hours.
