About Our Ideal Candidate:

At Life Without Barriers, we seek a highly skilled and compassionate individual to fill the position of Child & Family Practitioner. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality casework support and supervision to children and young people in family-based care arrangements.

This position requires someone with recognised social work qualifications, significant experience in the child protection and out-of-home care sector, and demonstrated skills in working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Undertake casework practice in partnership with relevant government agencies, children, and their families, carers, and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with carers to understand the pervasive damage of trauma, loss, neglect, and abuse and its impact on children and young people.
  • Apply the CARE model in day-to-day care with children to enable them to learn to trust, form relationships, and gain resilience.
  • Build and strengthen carer skills on how to include children and young people in decision-making and support them to reach their full potential.
  • Perform case management functions as prescribed in specific contracts or funding agreements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Recognised social work qualifications with eligibility for membership of the AASW and/or a Bachelor of Psychology or other relevant qualification.
  • Significant experience in the child protection and out-of-home care sector.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying an individual's strengths and areas for improvement within the context of providing foster care with an emphasis on permanency for children in care.
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team.
