Key to our operations, we seek an accomplished engineer to oversee the design review of our rail network's real-time systems and time-critical communications.
As part of our Operational Control Systems (OCS) & Communications team, you will ensure that our rail network is safe, reliable, and efficient by reviewing designs for compliance with industry standards and operational concepts. Your significant experience in engineering and construction management will be invaluable in managing complex projects and meeting tight deadlines.
With your in-depth knowledge of train control systems, communications, and data networks, you will contribute to integrated engineering assurance processes and support operational safety, reliability, and performance. You will also play a key role in assessing applications for derogation to V/Line standards and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance project outcomes.
To excel in this position, you must possess strong organisational skills, be able to work effectively within a cross-functional environment, and have excellent interpersonal skills to convey complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
This role is a Risk Category 3 position requiring safety assessments and a medical check. Benefits include four weeks' annual leave, twelve percent employer-paid superannuation, and free travel passes for metro and regional areas.
Responsibilities- Manage the design review process for OCS and Communications projects, ensuring compliance with V/Line standards and operational concepts.
- Coordinate with internal teams and contractors to meet design assurance demands.
- Assess applications for derogation to V/Line standards in terms of safety, practicality, performance, reliability, and economic benefits.
- Contribute to the development and/or assessment of applications for Type Approval.
- Analyse and respond to requests for information and technical queries related to project works.
- Collaborate with the Office of the Chief Engineer, Alliance partners, third-party delivery teams, and government agencies.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional who can provide expert-level support to our Operations Control Systems and Communications team. Essential RequirementsQualifications & Professional Credentials
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Must hold a valid Registered Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) credential.
Capabilities
- Significant experience in engineering, construction management, and solutions for complex rail infrastructure or large construction projects.
- V/Line design competencies in Control System and Communications at unsupervised practitioner level or equivalent.
- Experience with real-time, time-sensitive communications systems.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work within tight and often conflicting timeframes.
- Ability to manage a broad range of matters affecting project planning, design, construction, cost, and quality control.
- Knowledge of V/Line and Victorian railway operations, as well as experience designing and delivering railway projects.
- Willingness to travel for work, including occasional overnight stays.
