
Chief Risk and Governance Advisor

This is a key role within the organisation where you will play a vital part in safeguarding our reputation and operations.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop, maintain and implement risk management frameworks and strategies to mitigate potential risks.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and provide regular reports to senior leadership and the board of directors.
- Review, draft, negotiate and advise on contracts and agreements ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage and ensure regulatory compliance, conduct audits and respond to queries from relevant authorities.
- Support the governance of our contract management system and build a culture of risk awareness through training and communication.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external legal counsel and other professionals to achieve organisational objectives.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in law with current admission as a legal practitioner in Australia.
- Additional qualifications in risk management, governance or compliance are highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in providing in-house legal counsel preferably in a not-for-profit or membership organisation.
- Proven ability to develop and implement organisational risk frameworks and management strategies.
- Strong expertise in contract law and regulatory compliance, including drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate legal and risk concepts into practical advice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, including boards.
- Proven organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a part-time capacity.
- Deep understanding of Australian governance, legal and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with the regulatory landscape relevant to not-for-profit or membership organisations.
- Previous experience in aged care or community services or experience leading training initiatives on governance and risk management would be highly advantageous.
