The environmental program director will lead the team responsible for developing and implementing conservation strategies to protect Australia's unique environment. This includes working with government agencies, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to advance the protection of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective conservation strategies to achieve the goals of the Protecting Australia's Nature program.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to advance conservation outcomes.
  • Manage and mentor members of the team, including providing day-to-day leadership and facilitating ongoing professional development.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the science, policies, and politics of conservation in Australia.
  • Represent the organization publicly at conferences, seminars, and official forums.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as environmental science, biology, or ecology.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in leading successful conservation campaigns and initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of campaign strategy and experience in applying a diversity of strategic approaches to achieve campaign outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of conservation policy and current trends.
  • Passion for nature conservation and working with Indigenous communities to achieve large-scale and enduring outcomes for the environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience leading diverse teams and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Politically astute with proven aptitude to leverage political and stakeholder relationships and strategic insights to achieve positive policy and program outcomes.
  • Comfortable working with a high degree of independence and autonomy.
