The role of an Aboriginal Health Worker is a vital one, providing culturally safe and supportive care to women and families throughout the antenatal and postnatal journey.
About the Role:This full-time position is based at the Muswellbrook Maternity Unit, where you will work alongside a Registered Midwife and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Coordinating appointments with the Midwife
- Providing cultural support
- Arranging or participating in community events
- Joining home visits with the Midwife
You will be well-supported by a Registered Midwife, your Line Midwife Manager, and the Health Services Manager.
About You:We are looking for a compassionate and motivated individual with strong communication skills, basic computer skills, and a current driver's licence.
- Confident engaging with the community
- Ability to provide a vital cultural bridge between women, families, and health services
- Advocating for families and making referrals to NGOs and health support services
- Promoting health education through storytelling and visual aids
Requirements include holding or aspiring to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
Eligibility to drive in NSW and the ability to travel as required.
