Data Protection and Backup Expert

You will play a critical role in managing, optimising, and scaling our enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure.

  • Administering and maintaining the Commvault backup and recovery environment across hybrid infrastructure is key to this role.
  • Monitoring system health, job performance, and storage utilisation proactively ensures we are always on top of things.
  • Leading root cause analysis and resolution of backup failures, restore issues, and performance bottlenecks keeps our systems running smoothly.
  • Providing L3 support and mentoring junior engineers helps grow our team's expertise.
  • E nsuring adherence to data retention and protection policies safeguards our data.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation for backup configurations, SOPs, and disaster recovery plans enables seamless knowledge transfer.
  • Designing and testing disaster recovery strategies ensures business continuity.
  • Applying a strong risk mindset to proactively mitigate risks protects our organisation from potential threats.
  • Automating routine backup tasks using scripting tools (Python, PowerShell, Ansible) streamlines our processes.
  • Collaborating with cloud, infrastructure, and application teams to integrate Commvault with AWS and other platforms enhances our ecosystem.
  • Participating in capacity planning and architecture reviews helps inform our infrastructure decisions.
Key Requirements
  • Expert-level hands-on experience with Commvault, DataDomain, Networker, CommServe, Media Agents, and client configurations is essential.
  • A strong understanding of backup policies, deduplication, catalogue management, and storage targets (ECS, Pure, VMAX) is crucial.
  • Proficiency in VMware technology – Aria Suite, VRA/VRO Automation is required.
  • Proficiency in AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM) and AWS Cloud Practitioner certification is necessary.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Terraform) is desired.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and reporting dashboards such as Grafana and Prometheus is beneficial.

Prior experience in enterprise backup and recovery is highly desirable but not essential.
