About the Role

Sky News Australia is seeking a skilled Homepage Editor to collaborate with journalists and producers to drive engagement and reach of original journalism on SkyNews.com.au.

This role sits within the Audience Growth team and will be responsible for tailoring journalism for search best practice, including headline writing, picture selection, homepage editing, story pitching, staff training, and key day-to-day editorial contact for distribution partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit and curate the SkyNews.com.au homepage with the best performing content.
  • Possess mature and seasoned news judgement to help navigate story pitches from the staff and prioritise the most important issues.
  • Help manage a 7-day roster to ensure the biggest news moments are appropriately staffed.
  • Use WordPress CMS to build stories, assign them to appropriate sections, and liaise with social media teams.
  • Understand the immediacy of the digital and television news environments and how best to leverage broadcast content for digital assets.
  • Identify newsworthy opinion and interview content from our television channels and ensure this is delivered to our online audience quickly and accurately into the news cycle.
  • Understand what content works for which platforms and target content specifically for Digital platforms.
  • Work in a fast-paced team environment, liaising with the Digital Video teams, and on-air teams to turn around exclusive content quickly.

Requirements

  • Impeccable sub-editing skills and a proven track-record of breaking news stories.
  • Excellent news sense and the ability to write sharp content quickly.
  • Ability to train staff to ensure tight deadlines are being met while maintaining the accuracy of editorial content.
  • Experience in a busy newsroom is ideal, and management experience is preferred.
  • Ability to navigate complicated political discussions.
  • A positive attitude with enthusiasm for sharing ideas and learning new skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, to tight deadlines, and under pressure.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
