About the Role

Energy Queensland is seeking an experienced Senior Industrial Relations Advisor to provide specialist industrial relations advice to meet the operational and strategic needs of the company.

As a Senior IR Advisor, you will work in a team that supports the Manager Industrial Relations in delivering core IR functions, including workplace investigations, disability management processes, and enterprise agreement negotiation and implementation.

You will be part of an industrial relations portfolio that delivers unbiased specialist and expert advice and support on industrial relations matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with leaders and HR specialists to deliver an integrated, customer-driven, and commercially focused IR service.
  • Contribute to an industrial relations portfolio that delivers consistent unbiased support, advice, and assistance on industrial relations matters.
  • Effective industrial stakeholder engagement for complex and escalated matters.
  • Provide industrial relations advice and interpretation of contemporary industrial relations and human resources issues.
  • Provide advice and support to leaders on complex performance, conduct, and discipline matters, including conducting workplace investigations and disability management processes.
  • Support leaders with the resolution of sensitive, complex, and confidential employee relations matters, ensuring outcomes are resolved through leader accountability and local-level issues resolution.
  • Contribute to the development of advanced IR capability and competence across Energy Queensland's HR teams.
  • Provide advocacy and representational services on behalf of Energy Queensland at industrial authorities and tribunals, in the successful resolution of industrial disputes and tribunal matters.
  • Support the development and implementation of enterprise agreements into the workplace in partnership with management teams.
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with other stakeholders to provide a high level of expert advice solutions on workplace relations issues.
  • Undertake research into IR issues, including the monitoring of new IR developments within the Queensland Electricity industry, the National Energy Industry, and the broader ER and HR environment.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Degree qualifications in Business, Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Employment Law, or relevant discipline and/or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Desirable: Relevant industrial relations skills and knowledge gained from working in a range of industries with some exposure to Government regulation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in employee and industrial relations, including consultancy, influencing, and negotiation skills to achieve successful outcomes with key stakeholders, including advocacy before legal and industrial tribunals.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in supporting the delivery of complex industrial enterprise processes that deliver successful organisational restructure and industrial reform in a large, diverse, decentralised, and customer-focused organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to negotiations for enterprise agreements in a heavily unionised environment with multiple stakeholders, including government.
  • High-level interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to manage complex and sensitive issues, with the ability to consult, collaborate, negotiate, and resolve conflict effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Detailed knowledge of State and Federal IR legislation, systems, and practices, including Awards, Agreements, and relevant associated legislation, and proven ability to interpret and apply relevant Statute law.
  • Strong organisation, planning, and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and customer service expectations.
