Job Title: Manager, Remuneration Policy Expert

About Us:

The role of the Manager, Remuneration Policy Expert is to provide authoritative advice on remuneration for Members of Parliament (MPs), local councillors and executives in the Victorian public sector. This position involves managing a small team of policy officers to deliver high-quality products that foster best-practice remuneration outcomes for senior officials.

This position reports to the Director, Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal, and works closely with other divisions and government agencies to pursue the Department's objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of remuneration frameworks and policies, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide authoritative advice to Tribunal Members and Compliance Officers on remuneration matters.
  • Manage and improve processes related to the Tribunal's legislative obligations.
  • Support Compliance Officers with appeals from current and/or former MPs, including reviewing documentation and preparing analysis and advice.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within DTF, other government departments/agencies, and external groups.
  • Lead a small team of policy officers, including supporting their performance and development, ensuring work quality, and managing priorities.
  • Contribute to setting the strategic direction for the Secretariat and identifying/implementing actions to build capability and culture.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in applying relevant policy frameworks to provide comprehensive research, analysis, and advice on complex issues.
  • Highly developed communication skills with a proven ability to express opinions, information, and key points clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in managing teams that work collaboratively to deliver projects and tasks.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in changing priorities while meeting deadlines in pressured situations.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or field, such as economics, law, or human resources.
  • Knowledge of remuneration frameworks and policies.
