Key Role for Technical Services Expertise
This exciting opportunity is designed to attract an experienced professional with outstanding technical services management skills to partner with researchers and students on unique projects and novel solutions.
The successful candidate will lead a dynamic team across the Technical Support Services (TSS) portfolio, responsible for delivering excellent client-focused support of teaching and research activities across multiple schools and faculties at a prestigious University.
The Technical Services Manager is accountable for managing the Technical Support Services (TSS) Workshop teams that support education and research activities across multiple faculties within the University.
The key responsibilities include:
- Providing effective leadership, management, delegation, coordination, and guidance.
- Leading the implementation of service improvements, service excellence, and operational efficiencies within the TSS Workshops teams.
- Acting as a cohesive link between the work area, other TSS teams, researchers, and students, core research facilities, the broader University, and external clients.
- Planning and managing the effective utilisation of resources across the designated technical areas of responsibility.
- Championing best practice workplace health & safety, compliance, and risk management.
- Overseeing risk management and emergency response.
To be considered for this role, you must possess relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or trade qualification, with extensive experience in managing a diverse range of workshops in a large and complex working environment.
Proven experience of managing a medium to large-sized team, preferably in a Higher Education/Research Institution, is essential. Experience leading a team through organisational change and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders are also required.
Able to manage and forecast budgets, approve requisitions, and oversee expenditure, you should have experience in subtractive manufacturing technologies: Machining/Fabrication (e.g. conventional/CNC machine tools, welding), woodworking.
Acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within a workshop environment, including experience in working with, storing, and disposing of hazardous substances, is crucial. You should also have well-rounded experience in implementing safety procedures relevant to a workshop.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or trade qualification.
- Extensive experience in managing a diverse range of workshops in a large and complex working environment.
- Proven experience of managing a medium to large-sized team, preferably in a Higher Education/Research Institution.
