Production Planning Strategist

This role involves translating customer demand into actionable production schedules for machining operations. The Master Production Scheduler will serve as a key liaison between Sales/Program Management, Purchasing, and the Production Floor to ensure delivery commitments are consistently met.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance competing priorities in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
A successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and releasing the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for machining departments in line with customer delivery needs, material availability, and capacity constraints.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop, maintain, and release the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for machining departments.
- Prepare and distribute daily and weekly shipping lists aligned with production priorities.
- Compile and release manufacturing process documentation.
- Participate in daily production walks to identify and address issues impacting the MPS or shipping commitments.
- Generate and maintain monthly raw material requirements plans.
- Work closely with Purchasing and Shipping/Receiving to ensure timely availability of raw materials, hardware, and outsourced services.
- Manage tooling needs, including requisitions, inventory tracking, minimum stock levels, and returns of excess/obsolete items.
- Adjust schedules in response to engineering changes, customer priority shifts, or disruptions.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, or related field. Three years of experience in production/manufacturing planning within a job shop or high-mix machining environment is also required.
The ideal candidate should possess proficiency with ERP/MES systems, familiarity with CNC job routing, work center capacities, and machine shop flow.
They should also have the ability to read and interpret BOMs, routings, and work orders, as well as advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Strong communication and analytical skills are also essential for this role.
Preferred QualificationsA Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, such as engineering, is preferred. Familiarity with AS9100 standards and hands-on experience with 5-Axis Milling Platforms and Multi-Axis Turning Centers are also desirable.
ASME Y GD&T certification is highly recommended.
